Ymir started off a little different from the other characters. I had my orc character bust that I used for a style test in Semester 1 and thought it would be a good idea to just build the face off that original sculpt. As a giant kind of has similar aesthetic. Changing the head and face shape, nose and ears.

Then I built out his beard and hair the same way as my previous characters - with cylinders and bend curve. There is most definitely a more efficient way of doing this but I don't practice the character pipeline. I added my male basemesh and sculpted into that too.

I decided to add some little crystal shapes to Ymir's horns and beard to reflect that he was a frost giant.

Here is the full sculpt -

I added a cloth because this a no nudity zone.

For the low I just Zremeshed the character and UV Mapped in Maya. For Baking I removed the cloth and kept in the eyes because it was working fine for once. The character is going to be further away so it didnt matter to be if there was a little jank on the face from the bake.

I used my Orc Character as my main texture style reference for this sculpt-

And here is Ymir's final texture -

I also don't practice anatomy so I just laid down colours and hoped for the best for the body. Relying heavily on my shader in Unreal and the black wisps to cover up the sculpt.

As I was texturing I realised that the hair should of been bigger at the top but I didn't want to go overboard with it when modeling as this character needs to be falling in another shot.

Unlike Sol and Mani, Ymir is used in a wide shot so can’t get away with an A post because it would look awkward. I first posed Ymir for his falling shot with maya’s quick rig, with the help of this video because I forgot how to do it. It went through a few iterations until I was happy with it.

In Engine (lighting not done properly here) -

I asked advice off luke for the best way to light him too.

For ymir’s shot before. I rendered out two poses of ymir and cross dissolved between them for added movement. Doing the black wisps with photoshop.
