When thinking about my final project, I want to create something that combines my passions and ultimately have fun creating. The area of work that I find most interesting are cinematics (with a focus in 3D Environment).
Examples of the work I love are the lore cinematics/cinematic shorts for video games (League of Legends, Apex Legends, Magic: The Gathering, Genshin Impact). And short stylised films like Love, Death + Robots.
Check them out here:
While brainstorming ideas for a 3D short film and all the work required to take on a solo film project, a song came onto shuffle. Mars, by Sleeping At Last. He has an album called 'Astronomy Vol. 1' where he makes music inspired by astronomical discoveries and events in the observable Universe. He calls them “little soundtracks to awesome stuff going on in space”. I started thinking about visualising these astronomical events in 3D space to his music. Though knowing that space would be too challenging on my 3D skills, I began thinking of other historic events I could visualise instead.
Although 3D visualisation is often used as a research tool to reconstruct the past. I found that in large production films, however, they often simplify or misrepresent the past, presenting different and new information to make the story more entertaining and dramatized.
For this year’s study, I decided that I want to create a compelling, educational and factually correct historical driven 3D short film.
